How do I paint my hull

Congratulations MountainSailor, your laser looks great now! Did I understand it well that U sand after painting as well? I thought, people only sand the old painting but not the new one. How does this thing work? I also plan to partly repaint my laser in the summer, but I am totally...

How much does a Laser Std sail weigh?

As regards the scale, I also started to doubt its result, so I measured the sail again an hour ago in my friend's shop with an other scale. The result was 1,9 kgs, therefore it is possible to wrap the sail in something and send it to me as a mail for 10 pounds instead of 30.

How much does a Laser Std sail weigh?

Shipping by the UK post is 10 pounds, whereas shipping by their courier (I hope that's what it's called in english) is 30 pounds. I don't think I can demand anything from anyone if I get a damaged sail. (You won't bring a suit for an old practice sail and the sellers know it as well). On the...

How much does a Laser Std sail weigh?

"In a cardboard box, the last full rig sail I shipped weighed 6 lbs or 2.72 kg." Isn't that box a bit too heavy? I measured a standard sail on our kitchen scale and it was only 1,5 kg! I can't imagine that they can't wrap it into something so that it still remains under 2 kgs!

How much does a Laser Std sail weigh?

I measured my Laser standard sail on our home scale and it seemed to be far below 2 kgs. If I buy a new laser standard sail from lasersailing.com it is also 2 kg, including its bag as well! Now I want to buy a used laser standrad sail from Roostersailing, UK and they are unable to perceive...

    New Starter Questions

Thanks for the answers! Let me ask an other question, I hope i am not too annoying. My question is what I should look at when I buy a used sail? I don't really know how we can measure wheather they are in good shape or not. I will attach a picture as an example. Could someone please tell me...

    "coloured laser sail"

"No, they've got the rights." Really? Then how come intensity can produce the same sails? Did they buy the licence? Then they must be really very efficient in production if they sell the sails for less then 250 after having bought the license as well! :))

Oh well, I guess I'm an addict...

Thanks, I'll try it! :) Fortunately failing an exam at our faculty is not such a big shame as it is in the US, but of course it is not too pleasant. I have an exam again at the end of September, but I will hopefully have my new drysuit by that time, so I may be able to go straight to the lake...

    "coloured laser sail"

In fact, when we buy a Laser sail, we give something like 500 USD to a monopolist as a gift, assuming that the same sail costs 750 as a laser and 250 as an intensity sail... OK I stop provocation now.

    "coloured laser sail"

Of course, I don't even try to contest that sticking a Laser logo on Your sail is illegal. But I don't think it hurts anyone if You don't want to race with it (then they will find it out anyway) or if You don't sell it to someone else believing it is a Laser sail.

What You are writing about is a patent. That's what is used for helping the companies in minimizing r&d risk. Patents expire after a certain time, I don't know after how long in the USA but I am almost sure it has already expired in the case of laser sails. Trademark is an other right which is...

Oh well, I guess I'm an addict...

Exactly. :) And the only worse thing that I can imagine is when You are sitting by the writing desk, preparing for an exam and suddenly look through the window, and see trees bowing in the wind. You know You mustn't go to the lake now, where (of course) all the others are tearing in their...

    "coloured laser sail"

Yes, in this way, companies are not motivated enough the produce better equipment for lower prices, because their products can't be called "laser" anyway. That's when making profit gets more important than sailing... I am sure that all the authorized Laser producers are making enormous...

    "coloured laser sail"

Can anyone tell me if intensity sails have the laser star decal or not? I am afraid they don't, but I haven't seen any in my life. Now I am hesitating about buying one. I know it sounds stupidly, but a laser without a star is not a laser for me... Can we purchase such a decal from anywhere?

    New Starter Questions

Today I tried reefing again with only two rolls around the mast. It was something like the same as yesterday but I am not sure if it would resist slipping in a very heavy wind. On the other hand, it attracts chicks definitely better than the three-times-rolled version. :D Just try it!

    New Starter Questions

Hi All, Yesterday I tried reefing. The sail I used was not an original laser one but a laser std-clone produced by some noname firm. (That’s what you don’t feel sorry for, whatever happens.) I did the reefing following Merrily’s advice and rolling the mast three times around the sail after...

Thx, I'll definitely try it! Maybe setting the cunningham will be a bit problematic when the sail is rolled, but I don't have a radial or 4.7 sail for heavy winds (yet). I hope I'll be able to decrease the sail area to 5-5,5 sqm-s.
