The boat is tied down to the dock, and while I'm sure it can move a bit it's can't move any more than a boat on a dolly so I doubt it will be an issue.
It would, in fact I sort of modeled the stand after a dolly, but dolly's are expensive and my little stand cost me very little in materials and my labor is (theoretically) free so I felt like it was a cheaper option.
The dock is very nice, despite my crappy picture it's actually quite large...
I know that this forum has a general dislike for keeping/storing Sunfish upright however I've decided mine would live at the dock for easy access as I hate having to trailer it. With that in mind I set about making a small sling type stand for it rest upon.
The wood is Spanish Cedar, a member...
Nose repair with epoxy and vacuum pump
My Sunfish has been taking on a terrifying amount of water the last few times I've taken it out. The culprit was primarily a crack in the keel just under an improperly adjusted trailer roller; I neglected to take a single photo of that repair.
But...
Per the knowledge base article I covered the vent hole.
If I had to guess I'd say I never had more than 5psi in the boat, I was using a crappy bike pump and the volume to fill is rather large, also because the valve is just pushed in place it would have popped out long before any damage would...
Yep, just pushes right in. I thought about pushing it further down and screwing it into the threads of the drain but it seemed unnecessary.
Not sure, I plan on re-checking it next week so I'll try and remember to put a gauge on it this time. When I did it initially I just used a little...
Indeed, however it turned out to be a 3' crack in the keel directly under the trailer roller so it didn't really require a fancy leak test, more like a "don't be an idiot and take a boat off its trailer for a proper inspection before you buy it" sort of test.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned on this forum before but while performing a leak test on my boat yesterday and I found that a standard valve stem fit perfectly in the drain plug, making the whole process rather tidy.
Yeah, I added a piece of 3M clear bra plastic under the tiller and while it keeps it from scratching it makes a tremendous HONKING noise when moving across the deck so I'll replace it with a soft piece of velcro or something similar.
With regards to the length it's too damned long, when I...
The tiller that came with my Sunfish was covered in duct tape and (for some reason) was 4 inches short, so I whipped up a new one. After learning in this thread: http://sailingforums.com/threads/tiller-material.29272/ That anything made by me was illegal I figured I should at least make a nice...
Ahhh... yes THAT makes perfect sense. I agree the rule isn't wonderfully written.
Thanks for the replies, I really don't think my club will care if I fashion a new one and I'm pretty sure I won't be attending Worlds anytime soon so I'm not going to sweat it too much.
Thanks again, I'll post...
Hello Sunfish Forum.
I recently acquired a (new to me) '97 fish, however the previous owner did a pretty hack job attaching a universal joint to the original ash tiller so it will have to be replaced. I was going to knock one out in the woodshop right quick but I'm not sure if there are any...
