My Capri has stern cleats installed in the traditional places on the gunwale. Down here a lot of boats are kept tied up on docks on the various lakes so cleats are practically a necessity.
They do snag the traveler on occasion, so if i were racing, I'd probably not want them there.
Capri fenders
Dragonfly -
I have a set of the "low freeboard" fenders you're welcome to borrow. If I were ging to buy a set, I'd buy the flat ones that fold in the middle, but the round "low freeboard" ones work OK.
Another ATL area Capri
I'm in the East Cobb area -- had the boat at a slip at Sunrise Cove (Lake Lanier) last year -- never even got a chance to get it into the water this year. I've heard that Lanier is 7-8 feet down and a couple of the ramps I checked out were not usable -- the concrete ramp...
C14 stability
It's small, light and carries a lot of sail area -- it WILL go over if there's enough wind. :-) Then, so will just about anything if there's enough wind. :-)
Lots of roller jibs, but reef points in the mainsail don't seem to be that common on the C14's that I've seen and I'm...
I think that on the jib sheets, the thinner line would make it easier to clear the cam cleats and run free and that would make tacking easier and quicker
Capri 14.2 on Lake Lanier
I'll be out there sometime soon I hope! That's if the weather ever warms up enough so I can flp her over and paint the bottom. A friend has a dock and he's offered to let me keep my boat in the water on his dock for the summer. Sure beats trailering -- now all I...
I pciked up my Capri from a friend who used it for some frostbiting. He told me that while it was moored at his dock the bow painter "let go" and the stern rubbed up against the metal dock. I was expecting a few scrapes. Attached is a picture of what I found when I got the boat trailered and...
sailortailor website's down
Well, that's what I get for being helpful. It looks like they've failed to reregister the domain name and the site's gone Anybody got traditonal smail mail/phone contact info?
Tempress Hatch doesn't fit
Dang -
The Tempress hatch doesn't fit -- the overall size is right, but the flanges are wider and the opening smaller. The pre-drilled screw holes don't reach the fiberglas on teh top edge.
Oh well, at least it wasn't expensive and since I never installed it...
New Mod 3's have different hatches than old ones
I took my mainsail up to the local sailing center to have reef points put in and thee was a new Capri 14.2 in the yard. The new ones use the new Bomar access hatch which appears slightly larger and does open 180 degrees. On the Pompanette...
OK, so it's not a Honda 4 stroke, :-) But it was only $25 at a yard sale last weekend. Basically, it's a very short shaft (17") Weed Whacker with a propeller instead of a string spool head.
I haven't had a chance to see if it'll run, but I will as soon as I get back home from work...
spinnaker
Can't speak to the davit, but the class rules don't allow spinnakers so I don't know that I've seen one. The Capri has a lot of canvas to start with -- I woudl think it would be a real handful with even more sail area, but more experienced sailors than i can speak to that.
Cut-out dimensions
The hatch cut-out on my Mod 3 is 12" x 21". That appears to be slightly wider than the cut-outs for Rabud or Tempress hatches of similar size - typically their required cut-outs seem to be about 20.5 long and 10.5 to 11" wide. If I can find a store in Atlanta that carries...
Bomar hatches
The Pompanette (Bomar) website notes that there are some solvent-type products that can be used to remove the old caulking. I'll chack them out and report back. If the weather's nice this weekend, I may try to remove the old hatch coaming and measure the opening. I might even...
Since it was so warm this weekend in Atlanta, my daughter and I started to get the Capri back into shape for sailing after a 2 year hiatus. The hatch (Bowmar?) hinges ahve broken, largely, I think, because the hatch was hinged at the top and only opened about 90 degrees or so and the kids would...
