I'll be in Cape Town, S.A., in Nov.-Dec. 2007, and I'm looking for a place go Laser sailing. Any suggestions? I'll need to borrow or charter a boat. Thanks.
When heeling to windward (beating, in light air), how do you avoid having the boom fall over to the windward side? It seems as though gravity would prevent the boom and sail from staying in the normal, leeward position.
Because she knows that the boat was stolen (or, at least, reported stolen), she needs to contact the insurance company and let them know that she has the boat. You're right, there's a risk that she'll lose the boat, but a failure to notify the insurance company could make her a party to...
The bottom corner of my daggerboard (at the trailing edge) snapped off recently. Is this repairable, or should I bite the bullet and invest in a new daggerboard? Thanks for your help.
Perhaps a standard "rug" suggests a magic carpet ride, on which tell-tales might be useful . . .
Sorry about that. I meant standard "rig."
Is there any reason to think that the air flow over a radial would differ from the air flow over a standard sail?
Thanks, again.
Any suggestions for where to place the tell-tales on a radial rig? Should they be approximately the same as on a standard rug? (I just purchased a radial sail and lower mast section, but haven't used them yet.)
Thanks.
I've owned a Vanguard 15 for about 5 years, and I just bought a Laser this year. The Vanguard 15 is a great boat for both racing and recreational sailing with your family. It's simple to rig and sail (no trapeze, no spinnaker) , and its hull shape is similar to the Laser's, so it handles...
You are much better off transporting the boat with a roof rack - - it makes travelling much easier, and it protects the boat from bumps, road grime, swerving vehicles, etc. You should also buy a dolly, which you can carry along with the boat on top of your car.
I am not aware of any...
I think the reference to this being a two-person job was in regard to rolling the sail on the mast, not to rolling the sail generally. Rolling it head to foot isn't difficult, but I can imagine rolling it on the mast might be a bit awkward. You would also need to take the battens out, obviously...
Is it OK to store the sail (after removing the battens) by rolling it up on the mast? I would then store the mast away from the elements.
Thanks for your advice.
I'm planning to buy a new Laser soon. Although I would prefer to cartop the boat, I won't always have that option, so I'm planning also to buy a trailer. Of the two standard ones available (Kitty Hawk and Trailex), which one do you recommend?
Thanks.
