    Drop nose pin might work. I’m not super crazy about how secure they are and you do need to make sure it is somehow fastened to the rigging or it can go swimming like a split ring. Probably wrong application for a soft shackle so you can ignore that suggestion. A snap shackle is like this...

    I have raced 505s for a long time and the class occasionally has had a sort of exhibition “classics” side regatta at big events if memory serves.

    Nice! Thanks. Now I have a goal. Since I can’t post a vid, I clipped a picture of Small Axe when my buddy had her lit up. It was about a 20+ kt gust, with pretty smooth water (we are in a small bay) and he was generally beam reaching.

    According to my GPS app I hit 11 knots, but it was 1-2’ waves and I was basically running or deep broad reach. I took some green waves over the bow and damn near pitch poled! But later, in more protected water my buddy was beam reaching and looked to go maybe 13-14 knots? I shot some video...

    Can’t speak for New London, but if you do sail to close to military areas you aren’t supposed to here in the PNW, you will be accosted, in a not very friendly way. These guys and gals take their orders seriously, no matter what you look like.

    Yeah, I sail on Port Townsend Bay which is bordered by Naval Magazine Indian Island. It’s where a lot of ordnance is stored for various naval campaigns. If you sail too close you may find yourself on the wrong end of a 50 caliber. We just use common sense and give it a good offing.
