Spongey cockpit

Hi there
I've just bought an old laser 68000 hull number . It has the usual things need doing on a boat of this age . All seem to be covered on here but the spongey cockpit. The one half of the cockpit is really soft and makes a crunching sound when you apply pressure to it . Does anyone have any advice on how to repair this? Much appreciated thank you.

Gotta assess before you can decide on repair route, only way is to do some exploratory surgery.
But it depends on what level of fix you're after...a quick make do or a full rejuvenation.
The simplist fix would be to drill a couple of holes and spray some expanding foam in there, conversely ...
cut out the affected area within the panel and reverse engineer a new section.
The old chestnut of time/effort/cost/projected use/justifying has a bearing.

Personally, I'd cut out the soft area and a bit beyond, clean up and make a new panel.

What area is affected ? Forward / aft, port / stbd ?
