FX Sails (3.9 oz) vs. Kevane Sails (4 oz)

Hello,
Does anyone have experience with FX Sails or Kevane Sails? FX Sails are 3.9 oz. and Kevane Sails are 4.0 oz. Does the oz. matter, which is better? What is the oz. weight for class legal sails? This sail is not for class racing, but I don't want to spend a fortune on a class legal sail.

One last question: Does having a window in the sail make a big difference?

Thanks,
Zoey

One last question: Does having a window in the sail make a big difference?

No, not unless you want to see through the sail .

About weights: Since any sail supplied by the builder is class legal and since they came in different materials, weights, and cuts, there is no way to answer your question about class legal weights. You apparently aren't interested in class sanctioned racing, so what is it you would like your new sail to do? Go fast, last a long time out in the sun, etc?

Unless you have the sail way up high, a window allows you to see the Jet Ski that's about to kill you .

You do have to be a bit more careful folding a sail with a window.

Regarding the other part of your question, there have been several threads regarding non-legal sails such as those made by Kevane and FX. Just use the search function. The answer may also depend on how much you are willing to spend. As you already know, these non-legal sails are considerably less expensive than (legal) North sails.
