    Nor'easter is on its way!

Alright, so who's going out after the storm? Projected 40-60knot winds and 15-25' waves, but most importantly, parking over the NE for three days after the intensity goes down, making for relatively safe while still intense conditions. I'll be out in Boston Harbor Tuesday through Thursday...

    Regional Difference in Spars

A couple of topics as well as experience has sparked my curiosity: What's the deal with the different spars? Here's all I know: in New England, we only get vanguard lower sections and booms. We can get both vanguard and "euro" uppers. The euros are more expensive but don't get a permanent...

    Terrorist bust round two

as of today, the main story on the www.yahoo.com homepage is that of the large terrorist plot that was uncovered. apparently, 20 or more people intended to blow up seven planes coming from england to the U.S. with liquids smuggled onboard as beverages. That hits especially close to home as my...

more bad news for the ABN AMBRO team

On sunday night 5/21/06, Movistar, the ABN AMBRO 1 boat, was abandoned due to structural damage from the keel bolt dislodging. There are numerous press releases under the news section of sailing anarchy, as well as a fund for the lost crew member (also on SA)

    Some NOR's

Just thought I'd throw these up- I've sailed in both of them before and they're both excellent venues. The QYC regatta is on quannipowitt lake, a wonderfully small and shifty venue. It's a great place to practice detecting shifts, as you can yo-yo from 1st to last and back to first again...

    Musto, RS700?

I was reading a Sailing Anarchy post earlier today and saw a thread about a new prototype boat- the voodoo 16. It was a single-handed trapeze skiff, HUGE sail area, gennaker, basically a 1-person 49-er. Here's the thread: http://www.sailinganarchy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24070 I...

Which is faster: heel or no heel?

At a practice the other day, someone raised the question of which is faster in a laser downwind: Heeling or no heeling. The arguments are as follows. In 420's, it's always fastest to have windward heel downwind to get the sail higher up in the air. In Lasers, it's always fastest upwind to...

Collegiate sailing programs switch to L2?

I Just recently started a high school sailing program, and was thinking- Why do we have to use collegiate 420's? My argument is to switch to the laser 2- It's less expensive, has more sail area, and is 190 pounds lighter!!! that would make for a much more fun experience with college sailing in...

Attention Regional/National level sailors! have a question!

This question is directed at regional- and national-level sailors, as I would prefer their advice over someone who just started sailing a laser. I'm looking to buy the upgrades, and wondering wether i should get an 8:1 cunningham or something less, as it would be cheaper. Has anyone sailed with...

    Laser VS. Byte/MegaByte

I've seen a couple of pictures, but am wondering what the heck the difference is between the laser and the byte/megabyte. The pictures i've seen make it look like an almost exact copy of the laser. Can someone help?
