Media An instructional capsize recovery clip

When you weigh close to 100kg like this quy, the boat is already upright before you get all the way up on the centerboard. In this clip he needed to get up that much because the boom was sticking up ackwardly and wind was resisting his effort. In normal situation a large sailor can almost just...

Hi Cenutrio, Clip was from last year and it was not me in the clip. It was the guy who is posting here with the name "hekaleka". He is the one who did not keep on flipping over. I was there the year before and 3 weeks ago again. Place was CAR Infanta Cristina. There are some fresh pictures...

    Heeling the boat to windward?

In my experience it helps you to steer (lower) without using the rudder (which slows you down). Steering by heeling the boat can be very useful when it is not blowing very hard. It helps in maintaining the speed or momentum, because you do not "break" with your rudder. Steering by tilting...

    Upwind sailing advice?

With you weight (unless you are very short) you should be able to keep the boat upright. I suspect that your "tight" gunningham is not tight enough. The metal ring should be touching the boom or even go below. Rig both sides of the gunningham primary line to the same side of the boom to allow it...

Laser starts Rock'n Roll on a broad reach

Hi, If I understood correctly, your problem is that laser starts rolling back and forth while on broad reach. Solution is to sheet in a bit, pull the kicker tighter and move towards the stern. That should help the rolling. In addition to this the "counter strike" someone suggested earlier...

    couple quick questions...

Not sure if I understood why you could not jibe. (usually staying up after is the problem :) ) But here's my safe gybe tip for heavy weather anyway: 1. Like many have stated before try to gibe when riding a wave. That reduces the relative wind pressure to your rig. 2. sheet in maybe 1/3 to...

No, it does not. I have seen some good sailors do it backwards. head towards the stern. In any case Laser radial is the future for ladies not e-dinghy

    Still too light

This is what worked for me: http://koti.welho.com/jmurto2/mass.htm I gained about 1kg per month with this method. Some of it was fat of course but it soon desolved when I stopped the weight program and the necessary excessive eating. Muscle remained. Right nutrition is about 75% of mass...

    downwind specialist

I heard a lecture by Finnish national team coach who stated that Laser is a class where sailing at angles doesn't bring benefits as such. The only reason for curving is to catch additional speed from waves or moving to a benefit like gust, current, advantageous side of the course or tactical...

    Media real frost bite

Propably so with a pinch of self irony mixed in... the name of the video "voimapurjehtija" (=powersailor) means a sailor who only likes the rough weather physical sailing. Doesn't bother with the subtleties of low wind sailing. Usually big guys.

    Media real frost bite

So... you doubt the "frostines" of our spring training. These pictures were taken 28th March 2004. Our harbour is quite well protected i.e. no waves visible. When the water temperature is +1C (34 F) it feels quite chilly in any wind conditions. Can't sail more than 45min-1 hour at the time...
