I know that APS has a list of post 2001 line lengths, but using their guide I cut a 5' length for the cascade line for the 15:1 vang and it seems too long. When I connect it to the boom and mast, the double block is very close to touching the vang (like 3") leaving a bunch of slack for the cleated line... is 5' too long for the cascade line? Am I doing something wrong?
I picked up this used vang for a good deal and only have experience rigging the old one.
your boom should be at just about 91, maybe 92 degrees when making a right angle with your mast, and that should put the block at the end of the cascade at the boom
