Its definitely possible. I have towed my Single Axle all over the country including from San Diego to Charleston. I would recommend having the hubs tires and brakes overhauled/replaced before you go. Also I would practice with someone who knows what they are doing. A cross country road trip is not a good time to be learning how to drive a trailer. It should only cost a couple hundred bucks and most trailers are pretty neglected.
Or you could just buy an east coast boat, there are a ton for sale. Including mine which I will deliver, (Shameless plug I know, sorry I couldn't resist. )
