I just bought an older 470 and am unable to find a rigging guide. I am looking for just the basics. I am not a sailor but would like to know how to secure the main and jib halyard from the pulley at the base of the mast. seems like there a lot of stress on these lines and would like to be able to attached them securely. I have ran them through the cam cleats as seen in the photos I have attached but doesn't seem right. I can not find a basic rigging guide. Any help appreciated.
Both halyards should be secured on the mast itself.
Looks like you have rope halyards, the original rigging had wire halyards with rope tails.
The main was secured by hooking the wire loop at the bottom on a fitting with a series of teeth on the side of the mast.
Looks something like this Halyard Tooth LG
could be replaced with a metal clam cleat mount on side of mast for a all rope halyard..
The jib was secured by placing the wire loop at the bottom on a hyfield lever which was located in the mast track below the goose neck. The lever was used to set rig tension. It looked something like this Highfield Ratchet Lever
Both of these fitting may still exist on your mast if you post a picture that shows the mast from step to gooseneck.
The jib tension on newer boats has been replaced by a block and tackle arrangement to get more tension and travel.

I have taken some photos and I believe one might show the Highfield lever. The lever looks like it would be positioned upside down to take up tension from the jib coming from the bottom pulley ? I did not see any other cleats for the main. The small set of three cleat that were shown in the first photos had the jib marked in the center port cleat and the main marked in the starboard middle cleat which is why I started in that direction, If that is the Highfield lever attaching to the mast seems like a better option. I could add a cleat for the main on the mast. I have attached some more photos. I have more line and pulley as shown in the photos on the mast But if there are for the spinnaker I am not worried about that. Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.

The jib halyard loop is secured on the highfield lever, bring the halyard up inside of the two bails shown in picture, put the halyard on the lever hook , slide the lever up as high as you can get it by putting your shoulder against the mast and pushing forward, then throw the lever.
That looks like an Ermat mast, most of them had a halyard lock at the top, sort of a ring and hook arrangement. If that is gone add a metal clam cleat on the mast to support the main.
The cleats on the thwarts were for the spinnaker pole controls and the mainsail Cunningham.
Hope that helps
