Sail tie size

Does anyone know the correct size for the line to use when you replace the sail clip with small line? I have seen it range from 1/16th, 1/8. Is there a standard size? Also, what type of line is the best. The one I am using now seems to wear out after I have sailed a few times. I think I am using the wrong kind of line.

I am using Excel Vectran Polyester double braid 1/16th in. It's very durable, but I just started using it so I can't tell you how long it lasts. It's part of the recommended sail tie line in a line package sold at apsltd.com. I only needed the sail ties so I got much cheaper at West Marine.com. I'm impressed so far as it was hard to cut when I cut them to length :mad: . It also holds the square not better. Hope this helps.
