Removing old numbers

What is the best product to remove the sticky residue from the sail after removing old sail numbers? I am not sure which products would harm the sail.
 
use goo gone librally to soften the sticky stuff...

Then once you have a good mess going, take weightlifting/rock climbing chaulk and rub that in, eventually it will dry it all up and leave it clean and dry.
