Can I "attach" an optional outhaul block to the ouhaul clam cleat by tying a bowline around the block, and then passing the tail end of the bowline through the cleat, and then tie the tail around the boom?
Glen,
According to rule 3(f)iii of Part Two in the 2006 Laser Handbook says it is legal.
It reads: Additional purchases may be obtained by forming rope loops in the line or adding "Optional" blocks to the line,and/or using the outhaul fairlead, the outhaul clam cleat, the boom, the mast or gooseneck fitting. An "Optional" block may be attached to the outhaul fairlead, provided Rule 3(f)ii is also satisfied. An "Optional" block may be attached to the outhaul clam cleat.
Hi
Related to this question that is discussed here, personally I never forget the following discussion I had with Shevy in 2004 (Thanks for that now measurers can give "their opinion" (not official interpretation, of course) to this or that point of view related to the Clasrules of the Laserclass) :
