Old Style Rudder tension springs

I can not find a supplier for the old style tentioning springs. Bought replacements that were much smaller and that were for the new cheeks after I lost a spring. Replaced the pin but cannot find the old spring. Old rudder is not held down with the new spring. Am I missing something here?

As far as I know the springs have always been the same length - the geometry of the rudder cheeks has not changed since the introduction in 1972. Pics of your situation would help.
