Hi
I just purchased a 2001 Laser with standard rigging after not racing for years. I am looking to upgrade the rigging to the Pro rigging but don't know too much about it. Is this something I can install myself or do I need a professional to do it? What exactly do I need to order?
What should it cost?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks!
Doug
Hardware modifications to the boat only require a screwdriver and a tube of sealant. You have to replace the eyelet by the mast with a plate that holds two blocks, and the cunningham cleat with a mount that holds two cleats. No drilling or modifications to the boat required.
Cost is another story. If you buy the upgrade kits, I'm guessing it would cost about $400-$500 total. You can buy some of the pieces yourself and save a little money. Are there other people's boat that you can look at? The upgrades are not exactly one-design as you might believe, and everyone does it a little different.
I would go ahead and buy a new vang complete. Yes it's a little pricey, but the new vang arrangement is the single best part of the upgrades.
For the cunningham and outhaul, I would buy the deck-mount components individually, then get blocks, cleats and line individually that meet your needs. Again, it would be good to look at other people's boats first.
Installing the Pro Rig is incredibly easy. All it requires in terms of hull work is that you remove and replace 2 screws. The hardest part is probably getting all the lines rigged.
Thanks all for the info.
Any suggestions on where best to purchase?
And do I just ask for the "pro rig" hardware and they'll know what should be included? Or will I need to be more specific?
Thanks
Doug
