I was reading a Sailing Anarchy post earlier today and saw a thread about a new prototype boat- the voodoo 16. It was a single-handed trapeze skiff, HUGE sail area, gennaker, basically a 1-person 49-er. Here's the thread:
Well, I am sure there will always be some interesting boat-manufacturing going on, producing all types of craft. The only reason I am here, however, is to talk about Lasers.
The only reasons I chose Lasers were the facts that they are the largest one-design boat class in the world; has the most competitions in the world at ALL levels ( and therefore a chance to race every week if you wanted too!! ) are single-handed vessels, and have a huge support network of like-minded sailors to help--this forum included.
If you are interested in these vessels I would suggest you try on-line for a website...maybe a manufacturer or something..I am sure you can find the information you are looking for.
I looked at the websites, and am totally amazed that you aren't overpowered in them. I'm overpowered often in a radial, and i'm wondering how the heck i wouldn't be too overpowered to sail in something with 2-3 times the sail area. Has anyone had any experience with these and can they compare/contrast with the laser?
i have seen both boats sailing. it looks very energetic. it seams they require alot of practise gybing with the kite up because there is just so much to do all ina short space of time. the musto skiff looks nicer but is not as fast as the rs700.
