Amen! Now I snagged mine last October with a quick 5 hour drive to Detroit from Chicago after seeing it the night before on the web. $1200 for a basically sound boat and trailer in excellent shape. Will invest about $1700 into her to upgrade to my standards and then keep for years to come. Seems like $1200 would be a good budget for initial purchase, the $500 version could be a candidate for the dumpster.Shucks, that's a real kick in the nuts. I'm sure you were getting excited about it. Truth is though, that there were a lot of questionable unknowns with that one from what you described. I don't doubt that someone who would sell it out from under you like that, took even worse care of it than he let on. Consider it a learning experience and just more data to use in comparison when you look at the next one. Really, given a little time, I bet you can find one in significantly better shape for not a heck of a lot more money... It's all a trade-off. You could have had this one in two weeks for $500, then spent $750 and all Spring and most of Summer fooling around trying to get it in the water, or, now, you wait for your shot to come along, then spend $1200 on one ready-to-go and sitting on a trailer... Curse this douchebag the rest of today, then move on to better circumstances tomorrow. Good luck, and post an update as the search continues.

Good show! You got all the goodies that I will have to buy and install on mine. Not to mention the Mod 2 had the stronger transom, I will have to do substantial work on my Mod 1 to beef it up so the swim ladder and motor mount will hold up. I have seen some great deals for these boats but they were always at least 1000 miles away from my Chicago home. Would have been costly to make an inspection and then somehow have the boat shipped to me. My boat was sitting in Detroit so a 5 hour drive each way sealed the deal. Kind of wish it would have been a Mod 2 but then again I only paid $1200 for a basically sound boat and trailer. If you don't mind my asking, how much did you close your deal for?And yesterday I towed home a 1990 Mod 2Came with Trailer, excellent sails and rigging, motor mount, swimming ladder, handbook... the works
Now to rearrange the garage so that it fits in
I'm certainly pleased that it came down this way! I was in Minneapolis and a boat dealer there has a 1990 with trailer and all sorts of goodness, for $1,300.00 and it's only a 7 hour drive one way to come back and pick it up. The really nice part since the Capri needs to go in the garage, I was able to take my Phantom 14 with me to Minneapolis and consign it at the boat dealer's place so I don't have to deal with space issues or selling it myself. A great weekend, all in all and the wife enjoyed the drive up to MSP...
