Repair Laser boom refurbishment

I've got a boom from the 80s and its been well loved and the clew strap no longer glides on it so the outhaul is stuck at one position. I saw Mclube is an option, but i was wondering if there was a more permanent solution that would work. something like frictionless stickers or polishing the aluminum or maybe just steel wool idk.

open to any suggestions

Just clean the area which is in contact with the strap, get a new strap, and use a lubricant (such as Sailkote).
