Determining year of manufacture from hull number

I'm considering buying a used boat, but the seller doesn't know what year it's from. I suppose that doesn't matter a great deal since the design of the Sunfish is effectively static, but for the sake of curiosity, if nothing else, I'd like to know. The hull number is #05413M831. Seller suspects this means it's 1983. Is that right?

Over at Yahoo Group's Sunfish_Sailor site they list the numbering sequences for the Sunfish hulls.

The numbers you posted differ slightly from their example for a 1983 hull.
There should be the letters "AMF" infront ot your 05413M831.
And there should be a letter after the 83, not a "1". But if the "1" is actually a "L", then the numbering sequence is similar to the 1983 hull numbering series.
