Crack in the Cockpit Floor

There is a 4 inch crack in the floor of the cockpit on my 1979 sunfish. The crack is not superfical, but goes through the fiberglass. The floor of the cockpit in that area flexes slightly. The hull beneath the crack is fine, at least from inspecting the bottom of the hull. Being a new sunfish owner, I would like input on my planned fix: I am planning on drilling out each end of the crack and cleaning the edges of the crack. Before repairing the crack with epoxy, I plan on filling the area below the crack with expanding foam to provide support for the bottom of the cockpit in that area. Does this fix make sense? Is there anything else I should consider? Thanks for your help!

Make sure any foam you use is CLOSE CELL foam. Open celled foams such as those you normally find as insulation foam in hardware stores act like sponges.
