In the long run, is it better to buy a new sunfish or used?
I don't want to spend $3500 on a new one but i cant find any used ones in my area.

If you are going racing,it is probably a good idea to buy a new boat. But if you are just going to sail for fun, a new boat would be nice, but you can save $2,000 or more buying a used one. If you live east of the Mississippi or in Texas, finding a used boat should be possible. If you are out west, they are not as common and a little harder to come by, but it should still be possible. Newspapers and ebay are both good places to look for used Sunfish.

Even though $3500 is serious money, I predict that you will be able to sell a well-kept boat for ~$2000 five years from now.
