    Effect of battens/Centerboard riding up

Hi all, Accidentally raced minus my middle batten yesterday, and that got me thinking about what effect that may have had. I know the purpose of battens, of course, but how detrimental is sailing without one? This was in very light air. I was dogging it up on the course anyway, but also...

    year of boats

I sail an 1981, #94741. I just started sailing Lasers, and I've never felt the boat was especially slow, just the crew. This morning, actually, someone with another, old(er?) Laser was saying the same thing. Whats especially cool about these old boats is you can get into it for pretty cheap, and...

    Upgrades?

Mick, I've been racing keelboats for a number of years in Chicago, and am a decent sailor. Stepping into the Laser class, I was lucky enough to buy one that had the upgrades. I'd sailed Lasers before without the new vang/outhaul/downhaul, and noticed that it was easier to adjust the sail...

    Where to buy used Laser?

If you want to buy new, Hedlund Marine in Wilmette has a few that were used for only one regatta. They're sold under new cost, and have lots of nice upgrades. I was drooling over the green one today while buying parts for my paleoLaser. Otherwise, D20 usually sees about 2 boats a month go up for...

New to Laser sailing...need lots of help/info!

The fleet you've heard of at Belmont is the group that races "frostbite" races, which is what we'll be doing on Sunday. We usually race in/out of Belmont harbor, but since that's a bit of a construction zone these days, we've moved downtown. I've never raced inside Monroe, but it sounds...

New to Laser sailing...need lots of help/info!

As far as buying a Laser in Chicago, I bought an 81 last year for 1250, and that included all the upgrades and a fairly decent sail. Seems theres always a few boats for sale in our local district (20.) There is a small leak, so the hull is probably a bit softer, but I didnt feel this affected me...

    Cartopping - Trailering

One problem you might have if you go the cartopper route is with the roof racks lateral bars being too close together. I have an Acura Integra, and the bars were only 15 inches apart. What I ended up doing was making a long frame/cradle that supports the boat under the mast step and the aft...

    Laser trailer - new ideas

Pretty sweet! You seem to have support at the right areas. If I ever need a trailer, I might use yours for inspiration. Got a bottom cover though? Kristian 94741

Hi, I've been looking at both the laser coach cd, and the rooster sailing cd. any recomendations among these, or for books? I have dick tillmans book but found most of it was old ground, with the interviews being the most useful. thanks

    Hull paint

Hmm. Things to think about. I'm going to look around for someone to spray the boat. Sounds like awlgrip is the way to go? Im guessing its got to be more durable than an epoxy paint. thanks for the advice guys.

    Hull paint

Hm. This isn't exactly a boat thats going to be top-level, refinish or no. If I have to stay with a gelcoat finish, does anyone know where to get older colors? Its kind of a robins egg blue. Since the color on there now is probably pretty faded, can i mix in some white to at least get a closer...

    Wetsuits

Hello; i'm shopping around for a wetsuit to fill the gap between the drysuit and swim trunks. Do people have any recomendations for good Laser suits? I'm in Chicago and would be using the suit down to about 50 degrees. i've been looking at the ronstan skiff suit, anyone use it? thanks

    Hull paint

Hello, I just bought a nice old laser to be used for club racing in Chicago. Its about 21 years old, and the bottom is a bit scraped and gouged. I'd like to refinish the hull, because of the surface, and also because the boat is baby blue, which looks damn silly. I had been considering using...
