One of my friends found a post on the Craigslist in San Diego for an extremely rare Sunfish Fishing Special Edition.
I'm going to post some pics. Here's the link if you're interested.

Harken garage hoist system. I keep it hanging from the ceiling, clears my wife's minivan by a foot and a half in the garage. I don't know where the post is, but I took some detailed pictures of my hoist system and put them on here a while back. I think there's a way to look up posts by...
I cartop my boat everywhere. Here's what I do. I have a pair of Thule roofracks with rack pads. I put my boat upside down. I use adjustable straps that I can make extremely tight. I can't tie down the front and back (it's a Saturn Ion, not gonna happen, trust me) and haven't had a problem...
I'm going to Florida in March. And I'm gonna practice before I go - I'm not going to tell you about the weather and water temp in Charleston, that wouldn't be nice.
I've now "officially" looked in to it, and the answer is no..... so unless someone knows something I don't, there's no camping this year at the midwinters - I really enjoyed that last year. - I checked both places responsible - Clearwater Yacht Club, who's responsible for putting the race on...
The Thursday Nights are done, but there's a group of sailors trying to race at JIYC on Sundays. I'm not a member there, but I believe all sailors are welcome to race when they have any of these events. I'll keep you posted on the Sundays. If feel the need to contact me, use the email on the...
My fish actually hangs below the open door. I pull it up until it's about two inches underneath. It hasn't been a problem - My Honda Odyssey actually has a foot of clearance.
I'm adding another picture so you can see the strut on the triangle that keeps it from folding in. The steel is available at Harbor Freight. If anyone has questions about the way I built it, please let me know. It's all tied in to studs, and I'm fully confident that my boat isn't going anywhere.
I have a four point system in my garage, and it's awesome. I have a "hump" in my garage where the garage door opener hangs down. This required me to build supports to hang the blocks from. I'm going to attach pictures because I'm proud of my system. It enables me to come home with my boat...
I figured out how to mount a video camera on my Sunfish. The whole rig costs @ $250, and isn't "stuck" to one position. I'm not selling the rig, I built it (easily and cheaply) using an ATC2K camera (enter ATC2K into ebay) from Oregon Scientific (I think that's the right company) - it's...
DJ, I agree with the use of the rope over the shackle. I've been having a hard time finding that particular shackle, so the rope is a great idea.
As for the knots to hold friction, there should be no penalty for knot tying innovation.
Where can I find one of those cleats you were...
I don't have mine set up like this (yet). I have to use rope to attach my strap to the eye anyway, this is just a different way of using the rope. I don't think the rope is up for debate, otherwise hiking straps couldn't be attached to the boat. This hasn't been thrown out of the worlds or...
3.1.6 A hiking strap making one traverse of the cockpit may be installed. The strap may be padded for comfort with any material and shock cords may be used in the attachment system.
It does not exclude rope, grommets, the "hiking strap attachment device", etc.
This strap, and others of...
I'm the producer/editor of Back to Basics for Sunfish World Championship Speed featuring David Loring. There is a section where we cover his adjustable hiking strap, because it's really cool.
I've had questions about the strap, so I made a short video that goes into pretty extensive detail...
