My '84 has a few more than that and no mast step reinforcement. I've been sailing it all summer with no issues. That certainly is no guarantee the whole thing won't rip out tomorrow, though.

Thanks for the info + photos, LooserLu. Have you had any structural issues with the inspection port beside the daggerboard. I ask because its placement contradicts your diagram.

Also, the hiking strap is padded with foam and wrapped in duct tape. I'll replace that for aesthetic purposes, if nothing else.
