cunningham upgrade kit- gimme a break

No the UK system has the line coming through the sail then a cascade of two times 2:1 using lots of line and two single blocks. It is the two single blocks that bunch up and stop you applying more tension. Phil

    Rooster Laser Sail Clew Strap

I use the Rooster strap. I think it is great. It seems to slide much easier than any spectra system. I put the strap through the Harken hook and never take it off. The strap then seems a little long when used this way but at least it is less to rig. Could the Velcro wear when put through the...

cunningham upgrade kit- gimme a break

You are lucky in the USA. As far as I know (correct me if I am wrong) your upgrade is single line going through the sail connected to two double blocks which gives a ten to one system. (I personally feel that this is too powerful and you end up with too much rope in the boat when fully on)...

Bonking my head & safety helmets

Hi Iain I bought the replacement from Rooster, see the url below. The one he supplied had the Rooster logo which I didn’t like so I put it on with the logo facing the boom so it is hidden. Basically the kit is two pop rivets and a piece of webbing with two holes burnt in it (one at each...

Bonking my head & safety helmets

I would guess you have the vang tighter beating and tacking than running and gibing. Maybe tighter now than in the past. I have thought of wearing one, I have been hit once hard enough to leave a lump on my forehead. However I have replaced the metal mainsheet guide that is in the center of...

    Which vang

I have had both Holt and Harken. I think the Harken is better in one area. When you are on a broad reach and want to pull the kicker on you are pulling across the vang at 90 degrees. The Holt made of plastic that bends under these conditions (I felt it could break). It is also longer than the...

Should I remove the battens before rolling my sail?

The pipe I use is about 108 long and seems just right. It was a piece of 4 inch gutter down pipe from a builder’s merchant here in the UK. I roll from the head. I tie it to the centre of the pipe so the roll doesn’t follow the leach or the luff the sail just spreads out equally along the pipe...

    Laser Colour Concept

Plain is better for racing. If you and a few other boats are over the line you are more likely to be picked out if your boat looks distinctive. Phil

    Fatso Jr. extension

I don't know of the Fasto Jr. extension but I asked a similar question, here are the links to the posts: http://www.laserforum.org/showthread.php?p=5643#post5643 http://laserforum.org/showthread.php?t=1332 http://laserforum.org/showthread.php?t=1310 Regards Phil

    gybing

I have had the sheet loop up around the end of the boom. It was more frightening and confusing than anything - I didn’t capsize. I now just give a long steady pull on the sheet between the boom and ratchet block. I also move the sheet to my tiller hand before the gybe so that I am holding...

    Cunningham ratio pole

Chris It looks like 6:1 The line through the sail eye gives 2:1 and a block setup with 3 ups and downs (ie two single blocks one with a becket) gives 3:1. So 3x2=6:1 Phil
