    Mast top sections

Don't worry, Australian top sections bend and break as easily as any others (3 broken over course of 2 seasons:() Peter In Tassie

Coloured wrapping around bottom mast section - Worlds

Ok, quick question that I haven't had the opportunity to ask a recent radial World's competitor yet... I noticed in the pictures of the Radial Worlds in Auckland that boats had a coloured wrapping around their lower mast section. What is this for? Is it to show which division / fleet they are...

    Car topping question

Matt, for a while I transported my daughter's boat on a Bravo Dual Cab, but that had only 2 bars. More recently I got some wide bars to put on top of my Hyundai Santa Fe, and found that the curvature of the deck meant that the gunwhales were a couple of inches above the bars at the sides, so I...

radial? help an old(er) bloke out please

I'm 5'10", 95+ kilos, and I find the radial perfect for my level of unfitness. Been having a ball over the last month or so, even if the boom seems to be 6" lower than it was 25 years ago. I can sail a race in 15kts and not feel totally knackered, and then go an do it the next day as well...

    New '08 Laser!

Boats delivered in Australia are in the 192200's, a kid at our club has just got one. Other charter boats for Sail Melbourne were in the 192600s Peter in Tassie

    Hull Finish

OK people, this is a similar thread to Sanding Miles of Scratches, but my daughter's boat wasn't that bad, so I just filled as many dings and scatches as I could with Gelcoat Repair, and started sanding with the 240 wet and dry. I've just finished the 600 sanding and am about to start the 800...

    Haarstick sails

Hey Reon, your boat is very close to my daughters, she is 167023, so must be one of the 99 World's boats? Peter in Tassie

    Women's Hiking Pants

My daughter has some Rooster Sailing Hikers, the original style. They fit her perfectly, don't even think they are specifically a womens version, and she is an average 15-16 year ols size wise Peter In Tassie

    Hull / Deck join repair

At a training session at the weekend my daughters boat was t-boned by a skiff about 2 foot from the stern. It has taken a small chunk out edge of the deck, but more worrying, has split the hull / deck moulding join for 8-10 inches or so. My inclination is to grind out out the glue / filler...

    4.7 sailing

Having spent last Sunday watching my daughter in her 4.7 at a winter coaching day, the main comment made by the coach was in relation to tacking angle and speed out of a tack. Because the 4.7 sail is flatter than the radial or full sail, it is hard to get full speed straight out of a tack. He...

Autralian mast top section in Europe

Not so sure our top sections are any better than elsewhere though. Daughter got a new one in January for her 4.7 as a result of breaking old one, and it very quickly bent at the collar. I know you're supposed to break them in, but that's a bit hard when your have to get a new one in the middle...

Drilling hole in bottom of top section plug

Is there any rules issues with drilling a couple of drain holes in the bottom plug of the top section? After daughter's session yesterday there was a litre or so of water in the top section (which is brand new by the way). I'm reluctant to leave the water in there as the top section has been...

    Australian Nationals - Hobart

Is there anyone on the forum who is attending the Australian Nationals in Hobart at Christmas time? I am interested in purchasing a Laser after the championships, so this might suit someone from mainland Australia who doesn't particularly want to take their boat back with them, or perhaps an...
