I am not going to remove the deck but have removed the edge and have been able to get all of the foam out and have added back reinforcements out of marine plywood. The top is inline and we are putting it back on today.

thanks for the information. I removed the rail and separated the top from the hull using the method you suggested. It worked great and I have now removed the foam. What a difference in weight. We are going to put it back together today. Thanks
I too have a very heavy boat and want to remove the foam. I need to take the top off to do that and it sounds like you have done that. Any suggestions as to what to watch out for.

I had the same issue and found that if I put the H between the 9th and 10th rung on the sail and make sure the forward cleat is right about the main sheet cleat it should raise to about 2.5 feet above the deck
I bought a 1950's vintage sunfish that needed lots of repairs. It is great but very heavy. I am going to remove the foam and need to remove the top to do that and other repairs on the hull. Has anyone removed a sunfish top and if so what would be your suggestions.
