for the most part i agree with 49208...
i'd take it into a local loft first and ask, if it's nothing big they might just do it for free or give you the stuff to fix it with
otherwise, yeah, they'll probably say 15-30 bones for them to do it
the salt is only going to crystalize in the sail, soon as you start working it a bit you lose whatever 'crispness' it added, and the dry salt is only going to grind on the fibres
as for washing it, personally i'd be happy with a freshwater hose down and a solid drying before it's stowed: wet...
