Thanks WILL try the tube first. Cutting the foam would be a bigger project than I've got time for right now. Someone poured a lot of expanding foam into the hull.
Finally had a chance to get the boat where I could take a closer look. The bolt and wing nut are OK. It appears the problem is with the bottom plate. It's only held by the one wood screw, it gotten loose and the plate moves from side to side. I haven't been getting the gudgeon locked into...
I've got a pre-1972 boat and am having trouble with the gudgeon coming loose. I can lock it down, have tried tightening the carriage bolt as much as possible, but it appears to twist loose then pops up.
Other than carrying vice grips to try to tighten the wing nut - any ideas?
I just bought an old Sunfish (sn 43xxx). The gudgeon looks like it's missing parts. I haven't been able to find any good pictures or drawings showing what it should look like. Has anyone got photos or drawings of the assembly?
What am I missing and where can I find it?
