I appreciate your response, but I have found that shipping is prohibitive due to cost. I am hoping to find one here in the midwest that I can pick up myself. I priced a new one out of Michigan which is the closest SF dealer, but shipping was twice the cost of the new mast price.
I am still concerned about why the only spider cracks on this deck are at the two ends of the coaming and the first 3 rivets on one end have broken free, leaving a gap. I think I will go sailing.
I recently acquired a 1980 Sunfish in nice shape except for the splashboard (coaming), which seems to be warping and pulling itself up off the deck on the two ends. On one end the OEM pop rivets (Rivnuts) have pulled out of the deck and are loose. The deck seems to be in great shape, with no...
For a short time I had a Star Dancer (Before I found my Sunfish) which had narrow side decks like this SOL and they sure made my posterior sore if I sailed very long. The Sunfish still is the timeless design!
Curious: Are there any Sunfish clubs or groups in Iowa, especially in the Des Moines or Mason City (Clear Lake) areas? Pondering a move back to Iowa with my Sunfish.
I had a Star Dancer made by Edo Western Corporation and for a short time had a Sunfish at the same time. Physical comparison verified that the hull & rig were identical, only differing in the deck design. Sailing, I found the narrow deck edge harder to sit on if one has a tender tushie, and...
Clark, that is normal response for Shoreline - Their operation is apparently part time, appointments, etc. I had the same experience but they responded quickly. Email works good.
I don't know if they could win a race or not, but I just thought they were a unique Sunfish sail option. It was total chance that I happened to see them on the internet and thought they were cool.
Sure they are not cheap, but they are brand new, unused, and class legal. The colors are some that you will not find today unless custom made. I bought one and am very happy with it. I do not race, though - I just like Sunfishes in color. Yes, I remember when you could buy a new 1978...
FYI, Shoreline Sailboats has recently acquired a small number of NOS sails that they have pictured on their facebook page. "An opportunity for the Sunfish aficionado to have a class legal sail that no one else has!" Some very unique colors. Log into Facebook.
Are there any members here that can provide positive/negative sailing experience on Arizona lakes, especially Lake Pleasant and Roosevelt Lake? I am in Minnesota and am getting totally tired of sitting here in snow drifts waiting for a very
short Summer. I am especially interested in Sunfish...
