    Foam daggerboard?

That thing looks like a weapon! Yep, I saw your original thread too. Would like to here the comparison between the Intensity board and your extended one. I’ll be watching your original thread.

    Foam daggerboard?

Interesting read on both the aerodynamics (or in this case fluid) and different build techniques: Design and Construction Of Centerboards and Rudders and the same author's updated works: Paul Zander, Engineer

    Foam daggerboard?

That won't be happening anytime soon! LOL

    Foam daggerboard?

I happen to be on the board of our local club, so I asked the question tonight at our Board meeting if anyone minded if I made my own wood board as long it matched class dimensions. I got mild laughter with a comment that half the club has made their own daggerboards..... We have a very strong...

    Foam daggerboard?

Thanks for the replies so far. I've also thought of many of these concerns as well as the surface 'hardness' of the board. My wings don't need a high amount of hardness to prevent dings or hitting stuff underwater (I do sail on the Ohio River so that is inevitable). The de-turtling weight of...

    Foam daggerboard?

I've done some searching on and off this site for anyone who has done a home made daggerboard using foam and fiberglass. I currently have an original 1983 mahogany daggerboard that has seen better days. I will eventually restore it, but since my primary use of the boat is for club racing, I...

    Extreme Light Wind Racing Tuning/Handling

Good advice Eddie. I'm on a really steep learning curve this year going from having never even sailed a SF to racing one every Tuesday night with 17-20 other good pilots. I watched a friend sail away from me last week in light air with his sheet farther out than mine and pointed higher. It...

    Extreme Light Wind Racing Tuning/Handling

I've been learning to not run a ratchet block all season. Makes it interesting in heavy air days, but my forearm muscles are much more defined this year. LOL My biggest lite air lesson this year is to not oversheet. Might sound obvious to most of you guys, but not so much to us new racers...

Anyone ever lost the wind and....

Its happened to me more than once this season on the Ohio River while I'm downstream. Try ghosting along back to the start/finish line during a race when you are also fighting a .5 - 1 ft per second current! Stay close to shore and ride the warm air coming off of the shoreline. ;)

    Is using a paddle cheating?

We had about 17 guys paddling when the wind died during our race a few weeks ago. That was until the committee boat came and got us.

    Turtle

Well, I think a lot of my turtling last week was due to 15 mph winds and heavy water in racing conditions. My boat is 132 pounds, and I don't think that's overly heavy. I didn't have gentle picturesque rollovers. They were smack downs....

    Looking to start competing

I sail a 1983 AMF in local fleet competition. We usually have 17-20 boats on any given night, and the boats range from much older than mine all the way to ex-world's boats less than 5 years old. This is my first year of competing. I knew nothing going into it. I'm terribly slow, but I'm...

Looking for a sail with a window

I ended up just ordering an Intensity sail today. Thanks for everone's feedback.

    Turtle

I turtled for the first time in my Sunfish tonight during our weekly races. Not only for the first time, but the second time too. The wind was blowing around 15 knots, and for a new sailor like me it was a complete blast! I wasn't thinking about corking the boom, buoyancy, or anything like...

Looking for a sail with a window

Yeah, I get it. I'm just trying to fulfill the promise to my better half that I wasn't going to buy a boat and start dumping money into it, which I have already done a lot of so far (new main sheet, clips, block, outhaul), and I already have a couple of other much more expensive hobbies, so this...
