One of my main constraints is I don’t want to trailer a boat. It needs to be small enough for trolly launch, or big enough to keep in wet slip. And still be able to pack in 3 Adults (4 would be nice), and still be sailed solo.
I really want a mono hull, but one of the plastic hull Hobie may be...
Thanks for the thoughts. I really don’t want to trailer, I think that means big enough to keep in wet slip. Or small enough to launch from trolly. I think the later is tough since I want to be able to take a couple of others people with me (hence wanting bigger than sunfish or laser)
thanks...
Your choices look solid. I really want a small step up in size, but dinghys can be stored on dock, and keel boats in slips. Anything in between requires a trailer and a ramp. I’m lazy.... to your point, a smaller boat is certainly an appropriate step.
Thanks for the thoughts
i bought a used (and old) laser late last year, as my first sail boat. I took ASA 101 last year also.
In March I bought a sunfish since the kids were (still are) home from college for an extended summer.
im kinda wanting something that can have myself and 3 others (and still be solo’d.

I towed my boat off of the dolly on a small trailer. In my stock Toyota Tundra I cant see the boat at all while going straight. The trailex or righton options scare me a bit for this reason. I kept hoping to catch a red light so I could engage reverse to see rear camera.
The dynamic set up...
Ah, that sounds interesting. I looked at picture of trailex, the problem with that is I won’t be able to see boat or trailer behind my truck.
Maybe I can rig a flag or something
Thanks for the thoughts. I talked to Dynamic yesterday. They recommend transporting on straps, and not loading on the wheels (I.e loading the rear cross member / axle).
Rob, your comment about it being easy from trailer to dolly solo is interesting. Sorry, I’m new to this. How?
Thanks for the advice! I believe my Seitech dolly only caries boat weight on strap? Should the side of the boat be directly touching the raised part of the dolly that the strap is connected to?
I’m pondering modifying my trailer so that I can keep the laser on dolly when trailering. I’ve seen (photos of) right on, and at least one other off the shelf trailer that does this.
sould I bear the load on the wheels of the dolly (like right on) or support the dolly by irear cross member...
Lake Travis, and about 40 minute drive.
You kinda stoked my windsurfer interest. If I’m more interested in sporty solo sailing, maybe just keep it simple...
