How to attach inhaul?

I've search the forum and there's not much on this. It's probably simple. How are people attaching their shockcord inhauls? Anybody tried a line and block system and is that legal?

this may sound like a stupid question, but whats an inhaul.

thanx

An inhaul pulls the sail back to give it a rounded shape again after you let off the outhaul. The sail is going to do that some naturally, but an inhaul speeds it up. An inhaul gives you more control of sail shape.

my inhaul is fastened from the cleat on top of the boom and the other end has a loop in it, i pass the loop through the eye in the clew and atach to the clip on the on haul, this is a home made thing, i don't see any other way of doing it, but i could be wrong (as i usally seem to be :p)

So when you quickly disconnect it, it's left on the boom? That would be good, because with the method I tried--tying it to the clew, when I disconnected it from the boom instead, the flapping sail tended to whap me in the face with the shockcord. Thanks.

yes its attached to the boom at the outhaul cleat (for old rigging) the other end is relitvly short and can be wrapped around the boom 2-3 times to keep it out of the way

I have a clew hook for easy rigging and used to tie the inhaul shock cord to this, but one day the sail got a bit stuck and the shock cord pulled the hook out of the clew eye leaving me with no outhaul control. I now have a velcro type clew tie down and can tie the shock cord to the buckle on this so it helps it to slide.
After removing the sail, the clew hook is pushed through the knot/loop at the end of the shock cord on the tie down and a bit of tension applied so it all stays really neat on the boom.

This sounds good too. What kind of knot/loop are you using on the end of the shockcord?

Do you all use 1/4" chord? Maybe i was doing it wrong, but mine was attached to the cleat and a hook on the loose end, i would just hook the clew f the sail. but i found that only tention that would pull the clew properly was far too tight and therefore made the outhaul difficoult to pull. Any comments?
