Leach

The leach on my sail always flaps and makes an annoying sound when I am sailing upwind. I can't figure out how to get it to stop. I have adjusted every control there is on the boat, and got new batens that are correct length. It is a relatively old sail that was bought from Haarstick before Vanguard made laser sails, but is in new condition because I bought the boat from a boatbuilder who never used it and was very finnackey about how he kept the boat. Please help.

Hull # 186, by the way, and it only weighs 136 lb. !!

You can't legally stop it (ie fix it and still race with it in Laser regattas)
It's one of the "annoyances" that everyone lives with when racing.

If you aren't going to race and just have to stop it, you need to have a leech takeup done on the seam between the two battens where the leech flutter is -or- add more hollow between the battens

Thanks. I wondered if it was something that everyone has to deal with or if it was something that I was doing wrong. I'll just deal with it now that I know its a normal thing. -BM

P.S.: Someone told me that a laser racing sail has a leach cord. He says he has one with a leach cord. Is that true? Can you get them with leach cords?
