Well..I live in Miami Beach.
I will have my boat stored in Coconut Grove, about 15 miles away from my house. I suppose what I am trying to say is that "local" down here means hop in your car/SUV and go sailing!. The intracoastal is the obvious choice. There are really wide parts, and any number of 'power-boat' launching ramps(usually all are free to launch) are available. Broward is WAY more 'boat-oriented' than even here in Miami, so you should have no trouble finding a launching site.....The intracoastal is usually choppy on a breezy day...more like lake sailing.....
Try launching on the beach!! Go sailing in the ocean!!!I don't know the local regulations there. Some beaches (like the long one off Rickenbacher Causeway on Key Biscayne)----still talking Miami here, sry, allows such launchings --the sand is hard-packed there, which is an advantage.
Good luck!! Maybe we will run into each other--Port/Starboard? lol

that sounds more like the west coast in the gulf but here on the west coast there are a couple of clubs you could go to. you clould go up to the palm beach sailing club (http://www.pbsail.org/) or down to one of the clubs in miami like coconut grove (www.cgsc.org).
