what year it the latest to go?

I sail at a club and could possibly get a 70s era laser for very cheep however I would be racing it and would not like to be a terrible disadvantage. I know that the skipper wins the race but i want to know wether its worth it to save up for a nicer boat or go with the cheeper alternative.

My first Laser was a beaten up early 80's vintage boat. It as perfectly capable of winning races at club level where helm skill is far more important than that last little bit of boat speed due to having a shiny hull.

I would rather have a 20 year old hull that has been looked after then a 5-10 year old hull that has had a hard racing life....

Just my 2p!
