Traveler jam cleat & Backing plate thickness

Any thoughs regarding an anodizede aluminum vs. plastic cam cleat for the traveler? They seem to bite about the same with platic at 1/4 the cost and lighter?

What is the thickness of the deck fitting backing plates and are there backing plates where the recommended placment for the mainsheet cam cleats are to be located?

3/4" marine plywood is the backing material. If you are racing use the alum cleats as you want hi-tech no stretch line for your traveller and it will saw through the plastic eventually.
