Trailering: rear tie downs issue

Hello,

I'm new to trailering (and sailing, for that matter) and have trailered my '79 Sunfish about five times. It's gone well, but still seem to be having an issue with the rear tie downs not staying in place or slacking during the drive.
So, my questions: is there a trick to using tie downs or is there alternative? And what are the most practical ties?

Thank you.

Use webbing straps & snug them up tight , preferably ratchet straps on a long trip , don't over-tighten them though or you'll end up with a flat-pack Sunfish.

PS .... I always used to put them flat across the boat with no twists at all , but I was taught an "old lorry drivers tip" , which is to deliberately put in a couple of twists , which virtually illiminates the straps from vibrating at any speed. ( it works ).
