Sunfish paint color guide

Anyone know of a paint manufacturer that provides a color guide? I've got to paint my Sunfish and would like to get the best color match possible. I really want to avoid painting the entire boat because of an obvious color mismatch between the new and old paints used.

They all do. Ask for one at your marine supplier or go on line.

Is your hull already painted? That will need to come off for a good repaint. Original color is colored fiberglass resin, "gelcoat". It's not a paint at all, but much more durable. Matching new paint to a sun faded boat of either gelcoat or paint won't be easy. Might even require some custom color matching.

I was looking through the APS magazene and I saw that they sold the exact paint for each years sunfish

Yeah, APS has the gelcoat from each year, and in my experience, it matches well for touch ups. Are you sure you want to paint the boat? It might just need to be cleaned, compounded, polished, and waxed. What's wrong with it?

If you use paint over the gelcoat, and don't do the whole area, the painted spot is really going to stand out. You really can't touch up gelcoat with paint. Gelcoat has to be maintained regularly, compounded and waxed at least once a season. You'd have to work around your painted area each time, and it would still stand out, as it would be higher than the surrounding area, no way you'd get a perfect color match, and the texture and gloss of the paint would be different. For a touch up, I'd say gelcoat. If you want to do the whole deck, or whole bottom, or whole boat- paint. I like the interlux polyurethanes.
