Hi all,

Whilst doing some work on my Laser today, I removed the lower gudgeon and found the letters 'VG' in large red letters. Just wondered what the significance of this number might be ?.......any ideas ?

P.S. It's a 2005 model, sail No.183199 if that's of any relevance

Mike,

I figured that it was like finding the 'Golden Ticket' in Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory ! .....however I feel that a VG (very good ?) might be wasted on me, and that an an AR (also ran ?) might be more appropriate,

If it weren't a UK made boat, I'd guess Vanguard.

The stone artisans who made the great European cathedrals left their initials on their carvings. Perhaps whoever made your boat felt the need to leave their mark? If so, at least there is some pride in building the boat.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it is some kind of quality control mark at the factory. It may be that "VG" is the initials of whoever checked certain parts of the hull.

Just my best guess, based on the signed "QC Passed" stickers on the insides of electronics.
