sail with jib only ?

hi,

i'm new to sailing and want to start of slowly and increase my speed as my other abilities take hold.

so, i want to start off with as little sail /wind as possible.

should i use only the jib to start off with the progress with the main and then both?

remember i'm just starting off in a L shaped, tight cove 200'ft wide by 1/2 mile long.

You would want to sail with the main only. This really compromises boat handling though because the headsails are the real muscle for sailing upwind.

If I am solo and the wind is over 10k I always use the main only, and it works well for me.
