Sail Tie

I am trying to purchase some sail tie line, Dyneema/Spectra. I was told that this is the gray line used on the world's boats. I believe it is 2mm but not sure the diameter. Where can I purchase this? I tried APS but do not see it listed. Under SF sail ties they list a different type of line. Thanks.

It's a good bet the lines found on new Sunfish come from rope manufacturer English Braids. http://www.englishbraids.com

The Sunfish parts list at the Laser Performance web site recommend the following replacement ties...

Sail Ties: 32 per sail; {length} 11 in each, {diameter} 2 mm, {material} spectra ◊

Corner Ties: 4 per sail; {length} 20 in each, {diameter} 2 mm, {material} spectra ◊

HMPE (high-modulus polyethylene),
Honeywell (USA) trade name = Spectra ... Royal DSM (The Netherlands) trade name = Dyneema

The OEM line you see delivered with new Sunfish is most likely, English Braids Dynamic Line,
Dyneema SK75 - number DC20 (2 mm)

The APS line is an equivalent manufactured by Marlow Rope Ltd, now owned by none other than . . . English Braids. http://www.marlowropes.com

Marlow's Excel Vectran is a Liquid Crystal Polymer fiber core with a 16 plait polyester cover.

If you need a gray (actually more of a charcoal) to stay color coordinated, Marlow has the Excel D12 Max 78 12 strand Dyneema ® SK78 ..., but the smallest diameter it comes in is 3 mm.
