Rivets & aluminum rub rail

I have a section in the transom where the rivet has broken and the aluminum rub rail has come loose. Does anyone know if there is a special kind and size of rivet to re-attach the rub rail with? I have looked at the usual repair sites and they don't mention the type of rivet. The hull seam appears to be fine- it's just the rail that has come loose.

Thankyou

Will,

The rivets are 1/8" D x 1/4"l aluminum/aluminum (rivet/shaft). Check the Yahoo groups Sunfish Sailor (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sunfish_sailor/). Look under Files, then Repair Manuals and then page 8 "Trim". Follow the directions and you will be done in no time. The repair manual will also give you the basics on repairs of different things about a SF.

Hi Supercub

Thankyou for your reply. Are the rivets just regular hardware store rivets or is there a such thing as Marine rivets?

Will,

Regular hardware rivets will work fine. Aluminum rivet with aluminum mandrel (shaft) are all you need as there is no pressure on the rivets (just holding a little trim).
