Would anyone know if there is much difference in the speed of a sunfish and that of a laser when they're both in the same wind? In addition, if anyone has sailed both, what they thought about the differences in regards to performance and "fun" factor.

Just go down to the thread entitled "need some advice" which started on November 18. It will answer a lot of your questions. A Laser is quite a bit faster except in light air, and some say in really heavy air.
