hi all my lasers back from the hull repair, looking like new,i ve been doing some work on the centreboard.i straightened filled primed and wet flatted the board .i now need to replicate the original finish.laser in england told me the foils are dipped in a tank to finish them the paint has a semi gloss finish .they suggested car paint.i have a compressor and paint gun here.i think car paint might be to slippery even wet flat down after spraying .i am also concerned that as 2 pack paint needs specialist facilitys to use .any body know what paint to use? thanks sean

You're getting way to complicated. Just find a good can or 2 of white acrylic spray paint. Hang the board and spray away. Imperfections come out w/wet sanding.

I did the acrylic spray paint (rustoleum's higher-end product, I forget the name) over primer and found it way too soft... paint is off the front of the board after about 8 times sailing, big nicks in the sides of the board where it bangs against the hull opening.

Is there some other brand that people like better?

A while back there was a thread on here in which VC127 ("Interlux performance epoxy") was recommended for blades. I did my hull in it -- it's a real bear to put on and get smooth, but the resulting surface is bulletproof. I didn't have enough to do the hull and the blades or I would have used that.

I'll bet your primer was too soft. I did mine over the original finish, no primer.

I think yellow is fine. I seem to remember a year that yellow foils were actually offered.

That sounds very believable. Does anyone know if I can use chemical stripper on the board without melting the whole works?

i have used primer we use for earth moving machines, today i went to the local car paint supplyer he mixed me up a half lire tin of white semi gloss paint acrylic based paintsame as in a can thats enogh to paint the foils at least twice ill let you know the results later this week.i cant mark the primer with my fingernail.laser dipped the board into a vat so the coating will be very thick compared to the paint thickness obtainable from cans
