Outhaul adjustment on run light wind

i have the same book. i think you should give the sail 2/3 of a hand (from the wrist to the knuckle) but it depends on how you feel the boat! good luck

Use the breadth of your hand, not the length.

We call it "hang loose". You hold your hand in the "hang loose" sign surfers use and your max outhaul out should be from the end of your thumb to the tip of your pinky.

Ok in other words it means the same length 20 cm i.e the same distance from the wrist to the fingertips ?

I am only trying to understand what Tim Davison means in his table for run he says 1½ I figured it should be around 30 cm (it about what I use) it has to be more than 20 cm right !? i.e. more than you use medium wind on closehauled (beat).
