No birthday sail

The Laser Forum just sent me a happy birthday email - how nice is that?

I had been thinking it would fun to go for a sail on my 50th birthday, but today the high will be ZERO, and tonight the low will be -16F, and it is howling wind. The Clark Fork River is freezing solid. But the sun is out and it's quite beautiful.

So I think that idea is out the window! I'm staying inside!

Wimp! Ha, ha, kidding of course. And life only gets better and better after 50.

...you mean??

Try this!

Man, put her on a sled and show them the real meaning of frostbiting on a Laser
{Congrats to your "round" birthday MasterMike. I'm not in that club, four years to go for me...:D}

Like I' ve advised it already at winter 2004 ( http://www.laserforum.org/iceboat-w-laser-rig-t1746.html ), I would take this (I guess, "Geoff S" has much more and better ideas, as he is an expert for "DN" hardwater sailing... where is he?):

Mike: Bummer to hear that you couldn't get out for a b'day sail... :(

With a birthday this time of year, and living where you do, I'd suggest iceboating!
Depending where on the Clark Fork River you live, you might be close enough to Canyon Ferry Lake to do some winter sailiing there:

I just got back from the first DN regatta of the season two weeks ago. It was cold, but at least above 0F...

Personally, my goal is to minimize the time between my last "soft-water" sail and the first iceboating. Last weekend it was 40F here in Madison, and I considered taking my Laser out for a spin (which would give me an overlapping season!:cool:), but the 30+ kn winds damped my enthusiasm (not to mention having to drag the boat across 100+ feet of ice near shore). :(

As I'm nearing the magic age you mention, I'm hoping it will pass with minimal disturbance. There are lots of Laser and DN sailors way older than 50, so I think there's a good chance. :D

Cheers,

Geoff S.
