I just picked up a older laser and thought I looked it over real good. In the pile of parts was an extra lower mast for some reason I couldn't figure out initially. Only later at home did I realize I just bought a boat with a radial rig! At least I also have a regular rig mast, but I am now on the lookout for a regular rig sail. So to others new to the laser family, measure that mast and sail!

Otherwise it is a pretty decent early 80's ex-racer. It sat in storage for 10 years, it is quite dirty but all there. I probably won't get it in the water until spring, I am in Michigan and mostly a fair weather sailor. I am 185 lbs, would the radial work as a high wind rig? I am coming from a Sunfish.

A Radial rig will work just fine for somebody with a Sunfish background. After you get comfortable in the Radial, you can invest in a full-rig sail and expand your horizon. Expect to get wet
